Regional Development through the Lens of Geographical Indications in Northeast Brazil

Regional development is directly linked to the historical evolution of communities and occupation their territories, as well current state occupied or explored spaces, economic dynamics. In this sense, knowing that discussions on regional are crucial, one should note geographical indications (GIs) can contribute its achievement. Therefore, paper aims at investigating relations between Brazil’s Northeast, seeking understand if there has been any relevant in region since granting GIs. By adopting a qualitative quantitative approach, including bibliographic study, documentary analysis, data survey through questionnaires applied representatives 16 we observed was, fact, after certification these GIs, especially concerning valorization manufacturers, products, locations. However, it was also evident need for restructuring, mainly GIs not using stamp. It utmost importance establish partnership public private institutions, associations, manufacturers strengthen integrate actors different production chains, generating kind guided by balance economic, environmental, social, cultural benefits.
